Kinusaiga - Japanese Art of Fabric Mosaic

Discover the breathtaking and meditative Japanese art of Kinusaiga—a traditional fabric mosaic technique that uses richly colored fabric pieces pressed into a foam base to create stunning, painterly textile artwork! This beginner-friendly class for ages 16 and up is an introduction to a lesser-known fiber art form that produces truly spectacular results. In this hands-on class, participants will:

  • Learn the history and origins of Kinusaiga and its roots in traditional Japanese textile art

  • Prepare a base panel and plan a simple but beautiful design to work from

  • Select and cut vibrant fabric pieces, learning how to use color, pattern, and texture to build depth and dimension

  • Tuck and press fabric into carved grooves to create a seamless, mosaic-like composition that resembles a painted masterpiece

  • Leave with a completed Kinusaiga panel and the foundational skills to continue exploring this stunning art form at home

Kinusaiga is a deeply satisfying and meditative craft that produces artwork of extraordinary beauty.

This class is 3 hours long. All people 16 and up are encouraged to attend. All materials are included and the cost is per person.
